3

🎯 Explicitly mention your DBS status (enhanced, on the update service if applicable) as the advert flags this as a requirement and offers to assist with applications.

4

🌐 Highlight your flexibility and willingness to travel across South of England or London boroughs, as the role requires working across varied and multiple settings.

5

🤝 Reference any multi-agency or professional collaboration (e.g. social workers, CAMHS, schools) when describing care plan work, as the advert stresses working closely with other professionals.

1Question

Tell me about a time you had to remain calm and professional when a child in your care displayed challenging behaviour.

Situation: During a night shift at a 4-bed residential home, a 14-year-old became highly distressed and began damaging furniture following a difficult phone call with a family member. Task: My role was to de-escalate the situation safely while keeping the other three residents calm. Action: I used low-arousal techniques, giving the young person space while maintaining a calm, reassuring tone. I quietly moved the other residents to the lounge with a colleague and stayed within sight of the distressed child without crowding them. After 20 minutes, they accepted a drink and agreed to talk. Result: No physical intervention was required, no injuries occurred, and I completed a full incident report that was commended by the on-call manager for its detail and accuracy.
2Question

Describe a situation where you identified a safeguarding concern and explain the actions you took.

Situation: While completing a handover review of a young person's daily log, I noticed a pattern of unexplained bruising recorded across three consecutive entries that had not been formally escalated. Task: As the support worker on shift, I had a duty to report this concern without delay. Action: I immediately informed my shift supervisor and together we completed a safeguarding referral to the designated safeguarding lead, documenting the evidence objectively and without speculation. I also ensured the young person was seen by the on-call nurse that evening. Result: A multi-agency strategy meeting was convened within 48 hours. The concern was substantiated, and a revised safety plan was put in place. The young person later told their keyworker they felt listened to for the first time.
