Application advice

5 AI-generated recommendations to maximise your chances.

1

⭐ Place your Cat B / 3.5T licence prominently at the top of your CV under a 'Licences & Certifications' section — the advert lists this as the primary requirement.

2

📊 Quantify your driving experience: e.g. 'Completed 25+ daily deliveries across a 40-mile local radius with a 99% on-time rate' to stand out against other applicants.

3

🎯 Highlight any previous wholesale, food service or trade delivery experience specifically, as Booker serves independent retailers and caterers — relevant sector knowledge is a differentiator.

4

🤝 Include a brief example of building repeat customer relationships in your work history, as the advert explicitly values 'building relationships with regular customers'.

5

📋 Mention accuracy in paperwork or delivery documentation in your CV, as the role requires precise completion of delivery records — a concrete example (e.g. 'zero discrepancy rate on delivery manifests over 12 months') will reinforce this.

Dear Hiring Manager,

STAR answer examples

Model answers using the Situation-Task-Action-Result framework. Adapt to your own experience.

1Question

Tell me about a time you had to deal with a difficult or unhappy customer during a delivery — what did you do and what was the outcome?

Situation: While working for a regional food wholesaler, I arrived at a busy café to find the owner frustrated because a previous delivery had included two incorrect items, causing a stock shortage during their morning rush. Task: I needed to resolve the complaint on the spot and restore confidence in the service. Action: I apologised sincerely, contacted the depot immediately to arrange a same-day replacement drop for the missing items, and helped the owner reorganise the remaining stock to cover the gap. I also logged the discrepancy accurately on the delivery manifest. Result: The replacement arrived within two hours, the owner thanked me personally, and the account retained a five-star service rating in the next quarterly review.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to adapt your schedule or route unexpectedly. How did you manage it?

Situation: Midway through a 20-stop delivery run, I received a call from the depot advising that a road closure on my planned route would affect four consecutive drops. Task: I had to re-sequence the remaining deliveries to avoid delays and ensure all customers received their stock within the agreed time windows. Action: I pulled over safely, used the sat-nav to identify an alternative route, and called ahead to the three customers most likely to be affected to update their expected delivery times. I then re-ordered the remaining drops to minimise additional mileage. Result: All 20 deliveries were completed within the original shift window, with no customer complaints and only 15 minutes added to the total route time.
