1Question

Tell me about a time you supported a struggling pupil

A Year 3 pupil with dyslexia was falling behind in reading comprehension. I implemented a multi-sensory approach using coloured overlays and phonics games during our daily 30-minute sessions. I tracked his progress weekly and collaborated with his class teacher to adapt worksheets. After 8 weeks, his reading age improved by 6 months and his confidence grew significantly, with him volunteering to read aloud in class for the first time.
2Question

How do you handle challenging behaviour from children?

When a Year 5 pupil with ADHD became disruptive during maths lessons, I recognised he needed movement breaks. I introduced a traffic light system where he could request a 2-minute walk to the library when feeling overwhelmed. I also broke his tasks into 10-minute chunks with visual timers. This reduced his outbursts from daily occurrences to just twice weekly, and his maths scores improved by 20% over the term.
