The role:

You’ll be responsible for the day-to-day servicing of SME commercial clients. Application advice

5 AI-generated recommendations to maximise your chances.

1

⭐ Lead your Personal Statement with direct SME commercial insurance broking experience, as the advert explicitly requires a background in an SME or commercial brokerage role.

2

📊 Quantify your client portfolio: e.g. 'Managed renewals for 120+ SME clients across Package, Property, and Liability lines, achieving a 91% retention rate'.

3

🖥️ Explicitly name Acturis in your Skills section — the advert flags it as a beneficial tool, so listing it prominently will catch the hiring manager's eye.

4

🎯 Tailor your work history to show breadth across SME product classes (Package, Property, Liability, Motor Fleet) rather than depth in a single line, as the role covers a varied portfolio.

5

🤝 Highlight experience managing insurer relationships and handling client queries end-to-end, as the advert stresses service and relationships as core to the broker's culture.

1Question

Tell me about a time you managed a high volume of renewals simultaneously and how you prioritised your workload.

Situation: At my previous brokerage, our team of three handled a portfolio of over 300 SME clients, and Q1 renewals accounted for nearly 40% of the annual book. Task: I needed to ensure no renewal lapsed while maintaining accuracy across Package and Liability policies. Action: I built a colour-coded Acturis diary system flagging renewals 90, 60, and 30 days out, and triaged clients by premium size and complexity. I contacted the top 50 by premium first, batching simpler Package renewals for efficient processing. Result: We achieved a 91% retention rate that quarter with zero lapses, and my manager adopted the diary system team-wide for the following year.
2Question

Describe a situation where a client was unhappy with their renewal terms. How did you handle it and what was the outcome?

Situation: A long-standing SME client with a combined Property and Liability policy received a 28% premium increase at renewal, driven by two mid-term claims. They threatened to move their business elsewhere. Task: I needed to retain the client while managing realistic insurer expectations. Action: I approached three alternative insurers on the panel, prepared a detailed risk presentation highlighting the client's loss prevention measures, and negotiated a revised quote 12% below the incumbent's figure. I called the client personally to walk through the options and the reasoning. Result: The client renewed, saving them £1,400 against the initial quote, and they referred a sister company to us within six months.
