1Question

Tell me about a time when you had to resolve a discrepancy between drawings and site conditions

During a commercial office development, I discovered the existing drainage was 800mm deeper than shown on drawings while setting out foundations. I immediately stopped excavation work and contacted the design team with photographic evidence and survey measurements. I coordinated with the structural engineer to redesign the foundation depth, which required liaising with 3 subcontractors to adjust their programmes. The solution added £12,000 to costs but prevented a potential £45,000 remedial work scenario. The project completed on time with the revised design approved within 72 hours.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to ensure safety compliance on a challenging project

On a tight urban site with overhead power lines, I identified that the crane radius would breach the 6-metre safety exclusion zone during steel erection. I coordinated with the site manager and power company to arrange temporary disconnection for 4 hours during critical lifts. I briefed all 15 operatives on the revised method statement and positioned banksmen at key points. This prevented potential electrocution risks and £25,000 in emergency power company charges. The steel frame was completed safely with zero incidents and only 2 hours programme delay.
