1Question

Tell me about a time you had to lead a team through a challenging situation

During an unexpected Ofsted inspection at my previous nursery, I had to quickly coordinate my team of 4 practitioners to ensure we demonstrated our best practice. The situation was challenging as two staff members were new and feeling anxious. I immediately called a brief team meeting, assigned specific responsibilities to each practitioner based on their strengths, and provided reassurance about our preparation. I took the lead in presenting our planning documentation while ensuring each team member felt confident in their role. As a result, we received Good ratings across all areas, with particular praise for our teamwork and child-focused approach. The experience strengthened our team bond and improved our confidence for future inspections.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to manage conflicting priorities in a busy nursery environment

During a particularly busy morning, I faced multiple competing demands: a parent concern about their child's development, a new starter requiring support, and preparation for our monthly fire drill. I quickly assessed the urgency of each situation and prioritised accordingly. I immediately addressed the parent's concern by scheduling a proper meeting for later that day and providing initial reassurance. I then delegated the new starter support to my most experienced practitioner while I focused on the fire drill preparation to ensure children's safety. By systematically addressing each priority and utilising my team effectively, all tasks were completed successfully. The parent meeting resulted in a positive action plan, the new starter felt welcomed, and our fire drill achieved full evacuation in 2 minutes.
