1Question

Tell me about a time you had to manage challenging behaviour in a nursery setting

A 3-year-old in my care was having daily meltdowns during transition times, disrupting the whole room of 15 children. I observed his patterns and realised he needed more warning before changes. I created a visual schedule with 5-minute warning cards and worked with his parents to use the same approach at home. Within 2 weeks, his meltdowns reduced by 80% and he began helping other children with transitions. The parents reported improved behaviour at home too, and the room atmosphere became much calmer for all children.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to build a relationship with a reluctant child

A new 2-year-old started who wouldn't engage with activities or speak to staff, spending most days crying for mum. I noticed she loved watching other children paint, so I set up a small easel next to the main art area just for her. I sat nearby without pressure, occasionally commenting on colours. After 3 days, she started painting. I documented her progress through photos and observations, and within 6 weeks she was fully integrated, participating in group activities and had formed friendships with 4 other children.
