1Question

Tell me about a time you had to manage a challenging behaviour situation with a child

A 3-year-old in my care was having daily meltdowns during transition times, disrupting the whole group of 8 children. I observed his patterns for a week and noticed he struggled with unexpected changes. I created a visual schedule with pictures showing each activity, and introduced a 5-minute warning system before transitions. I also established a quiet corner with sensory toys where he could go when feeling overwhelmed. Within 3 weeks, his meltdowns reduced from daily to once per week, and other children began using the visual schedule too, improving overall group transitions by 40%.
2Question

Describe how you would build trust with a new parent who seems anxious about leaving their child

When 2-year-old Emma started at our nursery, her mother was visibly anxious and called twice daily. I arranged a gradual settling-in period over 2 weeks, starting with 1-hour sessions. I sent photos through our app every 30 minutes during her first week, showing Emma engaged in activities and smiling. I also scheduled a 10-minute face-to-face chat each pickup time to discuss her day in detail. By week 3, the mother's calls reduced to once weekly, and she commented that seeing Emma's progress through daily photos gave her complete confidence in our care. Emma settled beautifully and formed strong friendships with 4 other children.
