This QC Inspector role is based on a rotating shift pattern, which is days (06:00 - 14:00), backs (14:00 - 22:00) and nights (22:00 - 06:00).

The company is well established with nearly 100 years of manufacturing experience. The organisation offers job security alongside the opportunity for development and progression.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform detailed inspections of products using AQL criteria and any relevant documentation e.g. Procedure Sheets
  • Ensure that all inspections are carried out in compliance with customer-specific requirements, quality standards, and industry regulations
  • Check product dimensions, surface finishes, colour consistency, functionality, and other quality parameters to ensure conformity to specifications
  • Work closely with the production team to review and validate process setups, ensuring proper adjustments are made to meet quality standards
  • Communicate effectively with the team lead and other departments regarding first-off results and any adjustments required during the production process
  • Collaborate with the production team to ensure smooth operations and to promptly address any quality concerns identified during the inspection process

Experience required:

  • Basic knowledge of measurement tools (e.g., callipers, micrometers, gauges) and the ability to use them accurately
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to detect defects or deviations from quality standards

1Question

Tell me about a time you identified a quality issue that others missed

During a routine inspection of automotive components, I noticed subtle colour variations in plastic housings that had passed initial visual checks. Using my calliper measurements, I discovered the wall thickness varied by 0.3mm, indicating a mould temperature issue. I immediately flagged this to the production supervisor and documented the findings with photographs. We stopped the production run of 500 units, adjusted the mould temperature settings, and prevented 2,000 defective parts from reaching the customer. This saved approximately £8,400 in potential returns and maintained our 98% quality rating with the client.
2Question

How do you handle working night shifts while maintaining attention to detail?

During my previous role working rotating shifts, I developed a systematic approach to maintain focus during night shifts. I established a consistent pre-shift routine including proper lighting setup and calibration of all measurement tools. I implemented hourly quality checks on my own work, comparing measurements against dayshift benchmarks. For complex inspections after 2am, I used a buddy system with another inspector to double-check critical dimensions. This approach helped me maintain 99.1% accuracy across all shifts and received recognition for consistent quality standards regardless of shift timing.
