1Question

Tell me about a time when you had to adapt to alternating shift patterns

In my previous manufacturing role, I worked a rotating 3-shift pattern that changed every 2 weeks. Initially, I struggled with the afternoon-to-night transition, affecting my sleep schedule and productivity. I developed a structured approach: adjusting my sleep routine 2 days before each shift change, using blackout curtains for day sleep, and maintaining consistent meal times. Within 3 weeks, I achieved 100% attendance and my production output increased by 12% compared to fixed-shift colleagues. This experience taught me the importance of proactive planning when managing alternating schedules.
2Question

Describe a situation where your attention to detail prevented a quality issue

While operating a packaging machine, I noticed slight variations in seal temperatures that weren't triggering automatic alerts but seemed inconsistent with normal patterns. Instead of continuing, I stopped the line and conducted manual checks on 20 recent packages. I discovered 8 had compromised seals that would have failed quality control. I reported the issue immediately, and maintenance found a faulty sensor causing temperature fluctuations. My intervention prevented 400 defective units from reaching customers and saved the company £2,800 in potential recalls and rework costs.
