1Question

Tell me about a time you had to motivate an underperforming team member

Situation: One of my assembly operators was consistently missing daily targets by 15%, affecting overall line performance. Task: I needed to address this without demotivating the individual or disrupting team dynamics. Action: I arranged a private one-to-one meeting to understand the root cause, discovered they were struggling with a new assembly technique introduced 3 weeks prior. I paired them with our most experienced operator for focused coaching sessions and adjusted their targets temporarily while they developed competency. Result: Within 2 weeks, their performance improved to 102% of target, and they became one of our most reliable team members, later helping train 3 new starters.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to meet tight production deadlines

Situation: We received an urgent customer order requiring 2,400 units to be delivered within 5 days, 40% above our normal weekly capacity. Task: I needed to increase output without compromising quality or safety standards. Action: I implemented extended shifts with voluntary overtime, reorganised the production line layout to eliminate 2 bottlenecks, and brought in 4 temporary operators from our sister facility. I also introduced hourly progress reviews and visual tracking boards to maintain momentum. Result: We delivered all 2,400 units on schedule with zero quality defects, achieving 98% first-pass yield and maintaining our 100% OTIF record for that month.
