1Question

Tell me about a time you had to bridge the gap between technical teams and commercial objectives

When managing a portfolio of 60 technical products at my previous company, the engineering team wanted to add 15 highly specialised variants that would serve only 3% of customers, while the commercial team needed simplified offerings for broader market appeal. I organised joint workshops where I translated technical specifications into customer benefit language and created a tiered product structure. This resulted in launching 8 core products that captured 85% of market demand while maintaining technical integrity, generating £2.1M in new revenue over 18 months.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to make difficult product range rationalisation decisions

I inherited a catalogue of 120 technical service offerings with overlapping capabilities and declining performance. Analysis showed 40% generated less than £5,000 annual revenue each. I conducted stakeholder interviews, analysed 24 months of sales data, and customer feedback surveys. Despite internal resistance, I recommended discontinuing 35 underperforming services while consolidating 20 others into standardised packages. This reduced operational complexity by 30%, improved customer clarity, and increased average order value from £1,800 to £2,400 within 12 months.
