Job description

Original text imported from Reed

I’m working with a standout firm whose Employment team is ranked Band 1 in Chambers UK, and they’re now looking to add to their already well-established and highly regarded team.

This is a brilliant opportunity to join a close-knit but specialist team, where you’ll be encouraged to build strong client relationships, develop your commercial awareness, and really make an impact.

The work is genuinely varied (though it's only a little bit of claimant work) – you’ll be advising both employers and employees across a range of sectors, supporting on everything from day-to-day employment matters through to more strategic, complex issues. This includes corporate support work, advising on settlement agreements, and delivering practical, commercially focused advice.

There’s also a real client-facing element to this role. The team regularly delivers seminars and updates, so you’ll need to be comfortable presenting and engaging with clients in that setting - it doesn't matter if you haven't done it before, but an enthusiasm for it is key.

The firm has a genuine focus on its people, holding ‘We Invest in People’ Gold status, and offers a supportive, open culture with clear opportunities for development and progression.

On top of that, there’s a competitive salary, a generous benefits package, and hybrid working in place (50% from home after passing probation)

1Question

Tell me about a time you had to present complex legal advice to a non-legal audience

During my training contract, I was asked to present GDPR compliance requirements to a 40-person management team at a manufacturing client. The challenge was explaining complex data protection regulations in practical terms. I prepared a 20-minute presentation using real workplace scenarios and visual flowcharts showing decision-making processes. I focused on actionable steps rather than legal theory, creating a simple checklist for managers to follow. The presentation was so well-received that the client requested quarterly compliance updates, generating £8,500 in additional fee income over the following year.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to build a relationship with a difficult client

I inherited a client relationship with an HR director who was frustrated after receiving what they perceived as overly technical advice from my predecessor. They were facing 3 employment tribunal claims and felt overwhelmed. I scheduled a face-to-face meeting to understand their concerns and communication preferences. I restructured our advice format to include executive summaries with clear action points and risk ratings. I also implemented fortnightly check-in calls to provide updates. Within 6 weeks, the client's satisfaction improved dramatically, and they instructed us on 2 additional matters worth £12,000 in fees.
