1Question

Tell me about a time you exceeded a sales target. What was your approach?

In my previous role, I was tasked with achieving £150,000 in quarterly sales but was tracking 15% behind by month two. I analysed my customer database and identified 25 dormant accounts that hadn't purchased in 6 months. I scheduled face-to-face meetings with each one, focusing on understanding their current challenges rather than pushing products. This relationship-focused approach resulted in £180,000 in sales, exceeding my target by 20%. The key was listening first and positioning solutions that genuinely addressed their specific needs, which built trust and led to larger orders.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to build trust with a difficult customer

I inherited a trade customer who had complained about poor service from my predecessor and threatened to switch suppliers. During our first meeting, he was openly hostile and questioned every recommendation. Instead of being defensive, I acknowledged his frustrations and asked detailed questions about his specific requirements. I then arranged three site visits over two weeks, each time bringing samples and technical specifications he requested. By the third visit, I had earned his respect through consistent follow-through. He placed a £12,000 order and became one of my top 5 customers, generating £45,000 annually. The turning point was proving reliability through small actions before asking for big commitments.
