Application advice

5 AI-generated recommendations to maximise your chances.

1

⭐ Highlight any previous driving or delivery experience at the top of your CV — the advert explicitly frames the driver as 'the face of Tesco out on the road', so customer-facing delivery experience is central.

2

📊 Quantify your delivery experience where possible: 'Completed 40+ customer drop-offs per shift with zero missed deliveries over 6 months'.

3

🎯 Mention your valid UK driving licence prominently — this is an implicit hard requirement for any delivery driver role and should appear in your Personal Statement and Skills section.

4

🤝 Emphasise your ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as the advert notes drivers 'feel like their own boss' for most of the day.

5

🌐 Reference availability and flexibility explicitly in your CV or cover letter, noting you can cover the Sunday, Thursday, and Saturday windows advertised (08:00–18:00).

STAR answer examples

Model answers using the Situation-Task-Action-Result framework. Adapt to your own experience.

1Question

Tell me about a time you delivered outstanding customer service in a face-to-face situation.

Situation: While working as a delivery driver for a local food retailer, I arrived at an elderly customer's address and noticed she was struggling to carry her previous delivery inside. Task: My role was simply to hand over the new order, but I recognised an opportunity to go further. Action: I carried all four crates into her kitchen, checked each item against her order, and flagged one substituted product so she could decide whether to keep it. I also noted her preference for a side-gate entry on the delivery system for future drivers. Result: The customer called the depot to compliment the service, and my manager shared her feedback with the 12-person team at the next briefing as an example of best practice.
2Question

Describe a time when you had to manage a difficult or unhappy customer — how did you resolve it?

Situation: A customer became frustrated when I arrived 25 minutes outside the original delivery window due to a road closure. Task: I needed to de-escalate the situation quickly and ensure she still received her full order correctly. Action: I apologised sincerely, explained the road closure clearly without making excuses, and carefully unpacked all 3 crates at the door to verify every item was present. I also logged the delay on the in-cab system so the store could follow up with a goodwill gesture. Result: The customer's tone shifted entirely once she saw the care I took. She gave a 5-star rating on the post-delivery survey, and the store issued her a £5 voucher the same afternoon.
