STAR answer examples

1Question

Tell me about a time you provided excellent customer service in a challenging situation

A regular customer called to say their weekly grocery delivery was missing several frozen items worth £35. I immediately checked my delivery records and realised the frozen bag had been left in my van by mistake. Rather than waiting for the next delivery slot in 3 days, I drove back to their address within 30 minutes with the missing items and a complimentary bunch of flowers as an apology. The customer was delighted with the quick resolution and personally called my manager to praise my service. This experience taught me that taking immediate ownership of problems and going the extra mile creates lasting customer loyalty.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to work independently with minimal supervision

During a particularly busy Christmas week, I was assigned a new delivery route covering 12 postcodes with 65 deliveries to complete in 8 hours. With my manager tied up with other priorities, I had to plan the entire route myself using GPS and local knowledge. I organised deliveries by geographical clusters and time-sensitive items first, completing all deliveries 45 minutes ahead of schedule. Three customers specifically mentioned my efficiency and friendliness in their feedback. This experience demonstrated my ability to work autonomously while maintaining high service standards and meeting tight deadlines.
