Application advice

5 AI-generated recommendations to maximise your chances.

1

⭐ Highlight any previous delivery or driving experience at the top of your CV — the advert emphasises being the face of Tesco on the road, so customer-facing driving roles are directly relevant.

2

📊 Quantify your delivery experience: e.g. 'Completed 25+ home deliveries per shift with a 98% on-time rate' to demonstrate reliability and efficiency.

3

🎯 Mention a valid UK driving licence explicitly in your Personal Statement — this is a non-negotiable requirement for a delivery driver role and recruiters scan for it immediately.

4

🤝 Reference your ability to work varied shift patterns (evenings, weekends, early mornings) to match the availability windows listed — Sun 08:00–18:00, Mon/Fri evenings, Thu daytime.

5

🌐 If you have experience using sat-nav or route-planning apps, name them (e.g. Google Maps, Waze, onboard telematics) — navigating efficiently across Aylesbury postcodes is central to the role.

Letter preview — tailored to Tesco

Dear Hiring Manager,

Tesco's reputation for putting customers at the heart of every delivery is exactly what draws me to the Customer Delivery Driver role at the Aylesbury Tring Road Superstore. With a clean UK driving licence and hands-on experience completing multi-drop home deliveries, I am confident I can represent Tesco professionally on the road and provide the attentive, friendly service your customers expect at their door.

My background in delivery driving includes managing 20+ drops per shift across varied postcodes, using in-cab navigation to optimise routes and consistently meeting tight time windows. I am comfortable working independently for extended periods while remaining accountable to a base team — a balance your role description captures well. I am also fully available across the advertised windows, including Thursday daytimes and weekday evenings.

STAR answer examples

Model answers using the Situation-Task-Action-Result framework. Adapt to your own experience.

1Question

Tell me about a time you went above and beyond to help a customer who needed extra assistance.

Situation: While completing a grocery delivery round in winter, I arrived at a property where an elderly customer was struggling to carry her bags from the doorstep to her kitchen. Task: My schedule had 18 remaining drops, but leaving her without help felt wrong. Action: I carried all six bags through to her kitchen, checked she was settled, and radioed my depot to flag a two-minute delay. I also noted her address for the team so future drivers could be aware. Result: The customer called the store to compliment the service, and my manager shared the feedback in the next team briefing. I completed my remaining drops only four minutes behind schedule.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to manage your time carefully to complete all your deliveries within a shift.

Situation: During a peak Saturday shift, a road closure on my planned route added an estimated 25 minutes to my schedule, with 14 deliveries still outstanding. Task: I needed to restructure my drop sequence to recover lost time without missing any customer slots. Action: I pulled over safely, used the in-cab navigation to identify an alternative sequence that clustered nearby postcodes, and informed the depot of the diversion. I prioritised time-sensitive deliveries with narrow windows first. Result: I completed all 14 drops within the original shift end time, with only one customer receiving their order seven minutes late — who I called ahead to advise.
