1Question

Tell me about a time you had to work to tight deadlines in a driving role

During peak Christmas period, our depot faced a 3-hour delay due to loading equipment failure, putting 45 customer deliveries at risk. I quickly assessed my route priorities and contacted dispatch to reorganise the delivery sequence, focusing on time-critical parcels first. I extended my shift by 2 hours and utilised alternative routes to avoid traffic congestion. Through careful time management and proactive communication with customers about revised delivery windows, I successfully completed 42 of the 45 deliveries within the original timeframe, maintaining our service commitment during the busiest trading period.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to adapt your route due to unexpected circumstances

While driving a night shift from Manchester to Newcastle, I encountered a major motorway closure due to an accident at 2am. With 8 urgent deliveries scheduled for early morning, I needed to find an alternative route quickly. I used my knowledge of A-roads to plan a cross-country diversion, adding 45 minutes to the journey but avoiding the 4-hour closure delay. I immediately contacted our control room to update delivery estimates and arrived at the hub only 30 minutes behind schedule. This proactive approach ensured all morning deliveries proceeded as planned, demonstrating the importance of route flexibility in logistics operations.
