1Question

Tell me about a time you had to manage a difficult client relationship

During a statutory audit for a manufacturing client with £2.8M turnover, they initially resisted our recommendations for inventory valuation adjustments. The situation arose when we identified £180k in potentially obsolete stock that hadn't been written down. I scheduled a face-to-face meeting with their FD to walk through our findings systematically, providing clear documentation and industry benchmarks. I explained how proper valuation would actually strengthen their balance sheet credibility with lenders. As a result, they accepted our recommendations, and we maintained the relationship whilst ensuring audit compliance. They've since referred two similar businesses to our practice.
2Question

Describe a situation where you mentored a junior team member through a challenging assignment

A newly qualified junior was struggling with their first complex group consolidation for a client with 4 subsidiaries. They were 3 days behind schedule and becoming increasingly frustrated with intercompany eliminations. I sat with them for 2 hours, breaking down the consolidation process into manageable steps and creating a checklist template. I reviewed their work daily for the next week, providing specific feedback on each elimination entry. By the assignment's completion, they had not only caught up but finished 1 day early. They've since become one of our strongest junior staff members and regularly uses the template I created with other new starters.
