1Question

Describe a time when you had to manage a difficult client relationship

A manufacturing client was consistently late with their records, causing delays in their year-end accounts. I scheduled a face-to-face meeting to understand their internal processes and discovered they were struggling with a new accounting system. I arranged for our bookkeeping team to provide monthly support visits and implemented a document checklist system. Within 3 months, their submission times improved by 60%, and they renewed their contract for an additional 2 years, praising our proactive approach.
2Question

Tell me about a situation where you had to mentor a struggling team member

A junior accountant was making frequent errors in VAT return preparations, causing review delays of up to 3 days per client. I implemented weekly one-to-one sessions focusing on common VAT scenarios and created a step-by-step checklist for complex calculations. I also paired them with our senior VAT specialist for shadowing opportunities. After 6 weeks, their error rate dropped by 80%, and they successfully completed their AAT Level 4 qualification with distinction.
