1Question

Tell me about a time you had to motivate an underperforming team member

When I noticed one of our sales assistants had dropped from £45k monthly sales to £28k over three months, I scheduled a private meeting to understand the issues. I discovered they were struggling with product knowledge on our new kitchen range. I arranged for them to shadow our top performer for a week and provided additional product training materials. I also set smaller, achievable weekly targets of £8k to rebuild their confidence. Within two months, their sales had recovered to £42k monthly, and they thanked me for the personalised support rather than criticism.
2Question

Describe a situation where you exceeded sales targets through team leadership

Our depot was 12% behind target in Q3 with just six weeks remaining. I analysed our customer data and identified that we were losing repeat business from three major trade customers due to slow response times. I reorganised our team into customer-focused pods and implemented a same-day callback system. I also introduced weekly team challenges with small rewards for hitting daily targets. Through improved customer service and team motivation, we finished the quarter at 106% of target, generating an additional £89k in sales beyond our original goal.
