1Question

Tell me about a time you motivated a team to exceed their targets

When our monthly sales target was £180k but we were tracking at only £165k with one week remaining, I called a team meeting to address the shortfall. I analysed our customer data and identified 15 dormant trade accounts we hadn't contacted recently. I divided these between my 6 team members and offered a £50 bonus for each reactivated account. I also arranged daily progress check-ins to maintain momentum. The team responded brilliantly to this focused approach and personal incentive. By month-end, we had reactivated 12 accounts and achieved £195k in sales, exceeding our target by 8%. The team felt proud of their achievement and this approach became our standard practice for challenging months.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to solve a problem under pressure

During our busiest period, our main supplier delayed a £25k kitchen order that 8 trade customers needed for installations the following week. With potential penalty costs of £3k per delayed job, I had to act quickly. I contacted 4 alternative suppliers and found one who could provide 80% of the items within 48 hours. For the remaining items, I negotiated with 2 local competitors to supply at cost price. I personally called each affected customer to explain the situation and our solution. I arranged emergency weekend deliveries and waived our usual delivery charges. All 8 jobs proceeded on schedule, we maintained customer relationships, and our proactive communication actually strengthened trust with these key trade accounts.
