1Question

Tell me about a time you had to explain a complex technical concept to a non-technical customer

A manufacturing client was experiencing frequent motor failures but couldn't understand why their new high-efficiency motors kept overheating. I arranged a site visit and discovered they were using the wrong drive settings for their application. Rather than using technical jargon, I used a car analogy - explaining how using the wrong gear causes engine strain. I showed them how incorrect frequency settings were like driving in first gear on a motorway. After adjusting the drive parameters and providing a simple monitoring checklist, their motor failures dropped to zero over the next 6 months, saving them £12,000 in replacement costs.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to support a product manager with a challenging customer enquiry

Our Product Manager received a complex enquiry from a food processing company needing a complete transmission solution for their new packaging line. The challenge was meeting strict hygiene standards while handling high torque loads. I researched food-grade lubricants and stainless steel gearbox options, then created a technical specification document comparing 4 different solutions. I also arranged demonstrations with 2 suppliers and provided cost-benefit analysis showing potential energy savings of £8,400 annually. The client chose our recommended solution worth £45,000, and the Product Manager praised my thorough technical support throughout the 3-week selection process.
