1Question

Tell me about a time you had to quickly adapt to a new classroom environment

When I arrived at a new Year 5 class covering for their regular TA, I discovered they were mid-way through a challenging maths topic on fractions. I spent the first 15 minutes observing the teacher's methods and noting which 8 pupils needed extra support. I quickly adapted by creating visual fraction aids using classroom resources and worked with a group of 4 struggling pupils. By the end of the week, all pupils in my group had improved their fraction understanding, with 3 achieving their target level. The teacher praised my ability to seamlessly integrate and provide immediate impact.
2Question

Describe a situation where you helped a pupil overcome a learning challenge

I worked with a Year 3 pupil with dyslexia who was struggling with reading comprehension and becoming increasingly frustrated. I implemented a multi-sensory approach using coloured overlays, breaking texts into smaller chunks, and incorporating visual story maps. Over 6 weeks, I tracked his progress through weekly assessments. His reading confidence improved dramatically - he went from avoiding reading tasks to volunteering to read aloud. His comprehension scores increased from 40% to 75%, and his class teacher noted a significant improvement in his overall engagement with literacy activities.
