1Question

Tell me about a time you had to make a difficult safeguarding decision

I was working with a 14-year-old girl who disclosed emotional abuse at home but begged me not to involve her parents. The situation required immediate assessment under Section 47 procedures. I explained the safeguarding process clearly, involving her in safety planning while ensuring her voice was heard throughout. I coordinated with police and education services, completing the investigation within 15 days. The outcome was a Child Protection Plan that kept her safely at home with intensive family support services. The girl later thanked me for listening to her concerns while keeping her safe.
2Question

How do you manage competing priorities in a busy caseload?

When managing 18 active cases last year, I developed a priority matrix based on risk levels and statutory timescales. I used electronic case management systems to track deadlines and scheduled weekly reviews. For example, when three Section 47 investigations arose simultaneously, I immediately escalated to my manager, arranged additional resources, and completed all assessments within the 15-day target. I also blocked out 2 hours daily for report writing to prevent backlogs. This systematic approach helped me maintain 96% compliance with statutory timescales while ensuring quality outcomes for children.
