1Question

Tell me about a time you had to set up new systems or processes from scratch

When our academy trust acquired a failing primary school, I was tasked with establishing new financial systems within 8 weeks before the September intake. The situation required creating EBITDA reporting, procurement processes, and budget controls from zero. I conducted a full audit of existing systems, identified 3 critical gaps in financial oversight, and implemented cloud-based accounting software with real-time reporting. I trained 6 staff members on new procedures and established monthly review cycles. The result was a 25% improvement in budget accuracy and successful Ofsted financial management rating within 6 months, with the school moving from special measures to good.
2Question

Describe how you've led a team through a period of significant change or development

During a school merger affecting 45 support staff, I led the integration of two separate teams with different cultures and systems. The task was to create unified procedures while maintaining service quality during a challenging transition period. I established weekly communication sessions, created cross-team mentoring pairs, and implemented shared performance metrics. I personally met with each team member to address concerns and aligned everyone around common goals. The result was 98% staff retention through the merger, improved team satisfaction scores from 6.2 to 8.4, and seamless service delivery throughout the 12-month integration period.
