1Question

Tell me about a time you mentored a junior developer through a challenging problem

A junior developer on my team was struggling with implementing secure authentication in a .NET API that handled sensitive government data. The task involved OAuth2 integration with multi-factor authentication requirements. I scheduled daily 30-minute sessions over 2 weeks, walking through security principles and hands-on coding together. I created a step-by-step guide and provided code examples for secure token handling. By the end, they successfully implemented the authentication system that passed all security audits, and their confidence in handling complex security requirements increased dramatically. The approach became our standard mentoring framework for onboarding new team members.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to balance security requirements with user needs

We were developing a citizen-facing portal where users complained that the 15-step security verification process was too cumbersome, causing 60% abandonment rates. Security regulations required multi-factor authentication and data validation at each step. I collaborated with user researchers to understand pain points and worked with the security team to redesign the flow. We consolidated steps into 5 logical groups, implemented progressive disclosure, and added clear progress indicators. The new design maintained full security compliance while reducing abandonment to 18% and improving user satisfaction scores from 2.1 to 4.3 out of 5.
