Model answers using the Situation-Task-Action-Result framework. Adapt to your own experience.

1Question

Tell me about a time you had to show resilience when caring for a challenging patient

I was caring for a 28-year-old woman with EUPD who had been self-harming daily for 3 weeks despite our interventions. The situation was emotionally draining as traditional approaches weren't working. I took the initiative to spend extra time building rapport during quieter night shifts, using active listening techniques. I also collaborated with the psychology team to implement a new distraction technique involving art therapy. Over 4 weeks, her self-harm incidents reduced from daily to twice weekly. This experience taught me that resilience in mental health nursing means adapting approaches while maintaining hope for recovery.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to work closely with a multidisciplinary team

A 35-year-old male patient with bipolar disorder was refusing medication and becoming increasingly agitated, affecting the entire ward atmosphere. I coordinated with the psychiatrist, occupational therapist, and social worker to develop a comprehensive approach. I led daily handover discussions and documented all interventions meticulously. We implemented a structured routine with OT activities and gradual medication reintroduction. Within 2 weeks, his compliance improved to 90% and ward incidents decreased by 40%. The key was ensuring all team members had consistent information and unified goals for his care plan.
