1Question

Describe a time when you had to handle a difficult patient situation

During a busy afternoon, I was caring for a nervous German Shepherd requiring post-operative monitoring after dental surgery. The dog was becoming increasingly agitated, affecting its recovery and disturbing other patients. I recognised the signs of post-anaesthetic anxiety and implemented a calm, systematic approach. I moved the patient to a quieter recovery area, dimmed the lighting, and used gentle handling techniques whilst maintaining close monitoring of vital signs. I also administered prescribed pain relief and provided comfort measures. Within 30 minutes, the patient had settled considerably, allowing for proper recovery monitoring. The owner was extremely grateful, and the dog made a full recovery without complications.
2Question

Tell me about a time you mentored a trainee nurse

I was assigned to mentor a first-year trainee nurse who was struggling with radiography positioning techniques, particularly for challenging cases. I noticed she lacked confidence and was making positioning errors that required repeat X-rays. I developed a structured training plan over 4 weeks, starting with basic positioning on cooperative patients before progressing to more difficult cases. I created visual guides showing correct positioning angles and provided hands-on supervision during procedures. I also encouraged her to ask questions and practice on phantom models during quiet periods. By the end of the month, her positioning accuracy improved from 60% to 95%, and she gained the confidence to handle routine radiography independently. She successfully passed her practical assessment and thanked me for the patient, structured approach to her development.
