STAR answer examples

Model answers using the Situation-Task-Action-Result framework. Adapt to your own experience.

1Question

Tell me about a time you dealt with a difficult customer regarding parts availability

A trade customer needed urgent brake pads for a fleet vehicle repair, but our stock showed zero availability. I immediately contacted three alternative suppliers and found compatible parts at a partner depot 15 miles away. I arranged same-day collection and personally delivered them to the customer's workshop within 2 hours. The customer completed their repair on schedule and increased their monthly orders by 20% due to our proactive service approach.
2Question

Give an example of when you went above and beyond for customer satisfaction

A retail customer brought in a damaged alternator from a 1995 vehicle, struggling to find a replacement. I researched compatibility across multiple manufacturers and discovered a newer model that would fit with minor modifications. I sourced the part, provided detailed fitting instructions, and followed up after installation. The customer saved £200 compared to a specialist rebuild and referred 4 new customers to our business over the following months.
