1Question

Tell me about a time you had to respond to an emergency call-out situation

Last winter, I received a call-out at 2am regarding a turbine vibration alarm at our main power station. The situation required immediate attention as the unit was generating 15MW for the grid. I quickly assessed the vibration readings and identified bearing wear in the generator coupling. Working with the control room operator, I safely isolated the unit and implemented temporary repairs using our emergency bearing kit. Within 4 hours, I had the turbine back online, preventing £8,400 in lost revenue and maintaining grid stability during peak demand.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team

During a major turbine overhaul project, I worked alongside electrical technicians, civil engineers and external specialists over 6 weeks. My role involved coordinating mechanical work with the electrical team's control system upgrades. I organised daily briefings with all 12 team members, ensuring mechanical modifications aligned with electrical requirements. When we discovered unexpected wear in the runner blades, I collaborated with the civil team to modify access arrangements, completing the project 3 days ahead of schedule and achieving 102% efficiency on restart.
