1Question

Tell me about a time you had to solve a problem under pressure

During a critical delivery to Manchester, my trailer developed a hydraulic fault 20 miles from the depot. With a 2-hour delivery window remaining, I immediately contacted dispatch and located the nearest approved repair facility. While waiting for the mobile technician, I reorganised the load to prevent damage and kept the customer informed of the 45-minute delay. The repair was completed within 30 minutes, and I delivered the 15-tonne consignment with just 10 minutes to spare. The customer praised our communication and professionalism despite the technical issue.
2Question

How do you prioritise safety when facing tight deadlines?

Last month, I had 6 collections scheduled across the Midlands with a final delivery deadline of 18:00. Traffic delays meant I was running 90 minutes behind by lunchtime. Rather than speed or skip safety checks, I contacted dispatch to explain the situation and conducted full vehicle inspections at each stop. I suggested rerouting the final two collections to a colleague's run the following day. This decision meant missing one deadline but prevented potential safety risks. Management supported the decision, and we maintained our zero-incident record while ensuring all 4 completed deliveries arrived safely.
