1Question

Tell me about a time you had to adapt your approach for a struggling student

I was supporting a Year 9 student who was consistently failing maths assessments despite attending all lessons. The situation required immediate intervention as his confidence was declining rapidly. I observed his learning patterns for 3 days and identified he was a visual learner struggling with abstract concepts. I created colour-coded visual aids and worked with him during 15-minute daily sessions using manipulatives and diagrams. Within 4 weeks, his test scores improved from 32% to 68%, and his classroom participation increased significantly. The teacher noted his renewed confidence and requested I share the visual techniques with other struggling students.
2Question

Give an example of when you worked collaboratively with a teacher to improve student outcomes

A Year 8 English teacher approached me about 6 students who were falling behind in reading comprehension. We were 3 weeks into term and their assessment scores were 40% below class average. I suggested implementing guided reading sessions during form time, focusing on vocabulary building and inference skills. We planned 20-minute sessions twice weekly, with the teacher providing text selections while I developed comprehension activities. After 6 weeks, 5 of the 6 students achieved grade-level reading scores, and the teacher reported improved participation in whole-class discussions. This collaborative approach became a model for other departments.
