STAR answer examples

Model answers using the Situation-Task-Action-Result framework. Adapt to your own experience.

1Question

Tell me about a time when you had to deal with a difficult customer during a delivery

Situation: I was delivering to a busy restaurant during their lunch prep when the manager complained that 3 cases of vegetables were damaged. Task: I needed to resolve this quickly without disrupting their service. Action: I immediately apologised, took photos of the damaged goods, completed a returns form, and contacted my depot to arrange replacement delivery within 2 hours. I also helped them reorganise their remaining stock to minimise disruption. Result: The replacement arrived on time, the restaurant stayed operational, and the manager specifically requested me for future deliveries, praising my professionalism and quick problem-solving.
2Question

Describe how you maintain a positive attitude during busy or challenging delivery days

Situation: During a particularly busy Christmas period, I had 18 deliveries scheduled instead of my usual 12, with several new customers on unfamiliar routes. Task: I needed to maintain service quality and stay positive despite the increased pressure. Action: I started 30 minutes earlier, pre-planned my route using GPS, prepared customer paperwork the night before, and took 5-minute breaks between deliveries to stay focused. I also made sure to greet each customer with a smile and professional attitude. Result: I completed all 18 deliveries on time with 100% accuracy, received positive feedback from 4 new customers, and my manager commended my professional approach during peak season.
