1Question

Tell me about a time you had to adapt quickly to a new school environment

When I started a 10-week supply placement at a Coventry secondary school, I discovered their Geography department used completely different assessment criteria than my previous school. Within 3 days, I reviewed their marking schemes, observed 2 experienced teachers, and adapted my lesson plans to match their approach. I also introduced myself to 15 staff members during break times to understand the school culture. By week 2, I was confidently delivering lessons that aligned with their standards, and the department head praised my quick integration. This resulted in my contract being extended for an additional 8 weeks.
2Question

Describe a situation where you motivated a disengaged Geography student

I had a Year 9 student, James, who consistently disrupted lessons and showed no interest in Geography topics. I discovered he was passionate about football, so I redesigned a unit on climate change using football stadium locations worldwide as case studies. I created worksheets comparing weather patterns in Manchester versus Barcelona, and used World Cup host countries to explore environmental challenges. Within 3 weeks, James was actively participating, completed his first homework in months, and his test score improved from 32% to 78%. His improved engagement also positively influenced 4 other previously disruptive students in the class.
