1Question

Tell me about a time when you had to explain complex fire safety recommendations to a non-technical client

A retail chain owner was confused about my FRA recommendations for their 8-store portfolio, particularly the £15,000 cost for upgraded fire detection systems. I scheduled a site visit to their flagship Manchester store and used visual aids to demonstrate how the current system's 4-minute detection delay could impact evacuation. I broke down the compliance requirements into simple terms, showing how the investment would prevent potential £50,000 fines and protect their insurance coverage. The client approved all recommendations within 2 weeks, and we maintained their account for 3 additional years.
2Question

Describe a situation where you mentored a junior consultant on fire safety best practices

A new graduate consultant was struggling with FRA report quality, particularly in care home environments where residents have mobility limitations. I paired with them on 6 assessments over 3 months, demonstrating how to evaluate evacuation procedures for residents with dementia and mobility aids. I created a checklist covering the 12 key considerations specific to care environments and reviewed their draft reports before client submission. Their report quality improved by 85% based on client feedback scores, and they successfully passed their Level 3 qualification 2 months ahead of schedule.
