1Question

Tell me about a time when you challenged senior leadership's assumptions using financial analysis

During quarterly planning, senior management assumed our German division's 15% margin decline was due to market conditions. I analysed the P&L data across 8 product lines and discovered that 60% of the decline stemmed from increased logistics costs in 2 specific regions. I built a scenario model showing that renegotiating our transport contracts could recover 8% margin within 6 months. I presented this analysis to the regional director, challenging the assumption that external factors were solely responsible. Management approved the contract renegotiation, resulting in £1.2M annual savings and validating the importance of detailed financial analysis over surface-level assumptions.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to coordinate finance activities across multiple countries or regions

I was tasked with implementing new monthly reporting standards across our European operations spanning UK, France and Netherlands. Each country had different reporting timelines and data formats, creating consolidation challenges. I organised weekly calls with finance teams from all 3 regions, standardised the chart of accounts, and created a shared Power BI dashboard for real-time data visibility. The coordination required managing cultural differences and time zones while ensuring IFRS compliance. Within 3 months, we reduced consolidation time from 12 to 5 days and improved data accuracy by 25%, demonstrating the value of structured cross-regional collaboration.
