1Question

Tell me about a time when you had to respond to an urgent call-out. How did you handle the pressure?

Last winter, I received an urgent call-out for a failed chiller system at a 200-bed care home during a cold snap. The residents were at risk without heating. I immediately gathered my diagnostic tools and arrived within 45 minutes. Under pressure, I systematically checked the sealed system and discovered a faulty circulation pump. I sourced a replacement pump from our emergency stock and completed the repair within 3 hours, restoring full heating. The care home manager praised my calm professionalism, and I documented the entire process to prevent future failures.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to collaborate with other engineers to solve a complex problem

We faced a challenging Air Source Heat Pump installation at a 12-storey office building where the original CAD plans didn't account for structural obstacles. I worked with 2 mechanical engineers and an electrical specialist to redesign the system layout. I contributed my plumbing expertise to reroute the refrigerant lines, while coordinating with the team on pump positioning and electrical connections. Our collaborative approach delivered the project 2 weeks ahead of schedule, saving the client £15,000 in potential delays.
