1Question

Tell me about a time when you had to troubleshoot a critical infrastructure issue under pressure

During a production outage affecting 200 customer-facing services, our monitoring systems indicated cascading failures across multiple AWS availability zones. I immediately initiated our incident response protocol and began systematic diagnosis using our Terraform state files and Ansible logs. The root cause was a misconfigured load balancer rule that was routing traffic incorrectly after a recent deployment. I quickly rolled back the problematic configuration using our GitLab pipeline rollback feature, restoring full service within 45 minutes. I then implemented additional automated health checks to prevent similar issues, reducing our mean time to recovery by 60% for future incidents.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to collaborate with multiple teams to implement an automation solution

Our development and operations teams were experiencing deployment bottlenecks, with manual processes taking 3 hours per release across 8 environments. I organised cross-team workshops with developers, ops engineers, and security teams to design an end-to-end CI/CD automation solution. We implemented Terraform for infrastructure provisioning, Ansible for configuration management, and integrated everything into GitLab pipelines. The collaboration required balancing security requirements with deployment speed, so we incorporated Vault for secrets management and automated compliance checks. The final solution reduced deployment time to 20 minutes and increased release frequency from weekly to daily, with 98% automated success rate.
