1Question

Tell me about a time you helped a child overcome a learning difficulty

A Year 2 pupil was struggling with basic addition and becoming frustrated during maths lessons. I worked with the class teacher to create a visual counting system using coloured blocks and number lines. Over 6 weeks, I provided daily 15-minute sessions using these tools, breaking down problems into smaller steps. The child's confidence grew significantly, and their test scores improved from 40% to 75%. The teacher noted the child was now volunteering answers in class, showing the emotional impact alongside academic progress.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to manage challenging behaviour

During a Year 1 literacy session, a pupil was disrupting the class by calling out and refusing to participate. I calmly approached and offered them a choice between two activities, giving them some control. I then moved them to a quieter corner with visual prompts and worked alongside them for 10 minutes. This reduced the disruption immediately and helped them complete the task. I later discussed strategies with the teacher, and we implemented a reward chart that reduced similar incidents by 80% over the following month.
