1Question

Tell me about a time when you had to deal with a difficult situation while representing your company on the road

During a delivery to a busy city centre store, I encountered a road closure that wasn't on my planned route. The situation was challenging because I had a 44-tonne articulated lorry and limited turning options. I immediately contacted my transport office to inform them of the delay and worked with local traffic wardens to find a safe alternative route. I maintained a professional demeanour throughout, explaining the situation calmly to store staff who were waiting for their delivery. By staying calm and communicating effectively, I managed to complete the delivery just 30 minutes behind schedule, and the store manager actually commended my professionalism in handling the unexpected situation.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to adapt your delivery schedule due to unexpected circumstances

I was halfway through a 12-store delivery route when my vehicle developed a hydraulic fault that prevented the tail lift from operating properly. Rather than abandoning the route, I contacted my depot immediately and arranged for a replacement vehicle to meet me at the next delivery point. I worked with the maintenance team to transfer 8 pallets of stock to the new vehicle within 45 minutes. I then reorganised my remaining deliveries to prioritise the stores with the most urgent stock requirements. By adapting quickly and maintaining clear communication with both my depot and the stores, I completed 10 of the 12 deliveries that day, with the remaining 2 rescheduled for early the following morning.
