1Question

Describe a situation where you had to communicate complex data findings to someone without a technical background. How did you ensure they understood?

In my previous role, I analysed sales performance data for 12 regional managers and discovered a 23% drop in Q3 revenue concentrated in 3 postcodes. Rather than presenting raw SQL queries and pivot tables, I created a single-page Tableau dashboard with colour-coded regional maps and a 3-sentence summary highlighting the root cause: seasonal staffing gaps. I then scheduled a 15-minute call with the operations director to walk through the visual, asking clarifying questions about their decision-making process. They immediately grasped the issue and approved a pilot staffing plan. The dashboard became the standard monthly reporting tool for the team, saving 4 hours of manual explanation per month.
2Question

Tell us about a time you had to learn a new tool or skill quickly — what was your approach and what did you achieve?

When my previous employer switched from Excel to Tableau for client reporting, I had 2 weeks to upskill before the first live dashboard deadline. I committed 10 hours to Tableau's online tutorials, built 3 practice dashboards using dummy datasets, and attended a 1-hour webinar on best practices for stakeholder-facing visuals. I then shadowed our BI analyst for 2 days to understand the data pipeline. By week 3, I delivered a 6-sheet interactive dashboard tracking 18 KPIs for 8 clients, which reduced report generation time from 6 hours to 45 minutes. The dashboard was so well-received that I was asked to train 5 colleagues on the same approach.
