1Question

Tell me about a time you dealt with a difficult customer during a delivery

During my previous delivery role, I arrived at a customer's home to find they claimed their £85 grocery order was missing 3 items. The customer was frustrated and threatened to complain. I calmly apologised and immediately called my depot to verify the order. I discovered the items were indeed missing due to a picking error. I offered to collect the missing items from our nearest store within 2 hours at no extra charge. The customer appreciated my proactive approach, and I completed the follow-up delivery that same evening. This turned a potential complaint into praise for going above and beyond.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to work independently to solve a problem

While delivering to a rural area outside Durham, my delivery van developed a warning light 12 stops into my 28-delivery route. Following safety protocols, I pulled over and contacted my manager. However, with evening deliveries time-critical, I assessed the situation and realised it was a minor sensor issue that didn't affect vehicle safety. I documented the issue, continued my route carefully, and completed all 28 deliveries on schedule. I reported back immediately upon return, and the van was serviced overnight. My independent decision-making ensured no customers were disappointed while maintaining safety standards.
