1Question

Tell me about a time when you had to adapt your teaching approach for struggling students.

When teaching GCSE Business Studies, I noticed 8 students in my Year 10 class were struggling with financial calculations. I identified this during mock assessments where their average score was 45% compared to the class average of 72%. I created differentiated worksheets with step-by-step visual guides and arranged weekly 30-minute support sessions. I also paired struggling students with higher-achieving peers for collaborative learning. After 6 weeks of this targeted approach, their average score improved to 68%, with all 8 students achieving grade 4 or above in their final GCSE examinations.
2Question

Describe a situation where you took on additional responsibility beyond your teaching duties.

In my second year of teaching, I volunteered to coordinate the school's Young Enterprise programme when the previous coordinator left unexpectedly. This involved managing 45 Year 12 students across 6 business teams, liaising with external mentors, and organising the regional competition. Despite having no prior experience with the programme, I researched best practices and created a structured timeline. I arranged monthly mentor visits and established peer review sessions between teams. The programme was highly successful, with 2 teams reaching the regional finals and overall student satisfaction rating of 94%. This experience led to my permanent appointment as Business Studies department coordinator.
